SOP (standard operating procedure)

Izly TeamLast updated: 1 min read

What does an SOP contain?

An SOP usually contains a purpose, scope, responsibilities, prerequisites, numbered steps, checkpoints and a revision history. Each step starts with a verb and asks for one thing. A complicated step is linked to its own work instruction.

What is the difference between an SOP and a policy?

A policy answers “what and why” at a general level. An SOP answers “how” the rule is applied in daily work, step by step. For the method see what is an SOP and how to write one, and for a ready skeleton the SOP template.
